The So to Speak mobile language lab contains approximately 100 training sentences with as complete a grammar as possible and a vocabulary of between 400 and 700 words at the beginner level. The vocabulary is somewhat larger at higher levels. XXX How much?? The training sentences are presented three time, in 3 separate training steps, or phases. In the first step, the emphasis is on learning to listen and recognise all of the sounds in the target language. You test your comprehension by filling in the blanks in words in your mobile display with the sounds you are learning. This sounds easy, but is actually quite difficult, and you will need to listen to the same sentences many times in order to become proficient at recognising the phonemes that make up the language, and not confusing them with others. It is important at this time to not become distracted with 'what does the sentence mean' and 'what does this word mean'. We're not trying to teach you _how to pronounce certain words_, but rather what are the sounds in this language. Remember that the sounds come first. Step 2 builds on what you have learned in step 1. Proper pronunciation is trained systematically and intensively. XXX what do we want to say here? Not what was written. In Step 3, XXXX What do we want to say here? Not what was written. After step 3??? Icing on cake?? more vocabulary building?
